Scalp Micropigmentation

What Is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)?

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical aesthetic treatment that uses specialised pigment to replicate the appearance of natural hair follicles.

Unlike a traditional tattoo, SMP uses pigments and techniques specifically designed for the scalp, creating a natural, matte and realistic finish.

SMP can:

  • Create the appearance of a buzz-cut look

  • Add the illusion of hair density in thinning areas

  • Camouflage hair transplant scars

It is not a hair transplant, and it does not grow real hair but it dramatically improves the visual appearance of the hairline and scalp.

Who Can Benefit From SMP

SMP is suitable for:

  • Men experiencing thinning, receding hairlines or bald areas

  • Women with diffuse thinning or reduced density

  • Anyone with hair transplant scars (FUE / FUT / trauma)

  • People wanting a defined, natural hairline

  • Those seeking a low-maintenance solution

If suitability is uncertain, we assess this more closely during the consultation.

Why SMP Looks Natural

SMP works by carefully implanting tiny micro-dots of scalp-safe pigment. These are placed in layers across multiple sessions so the result:

  • Matches your skin tone and hair characteristics

  • Creates natural shadows and depth

  • Blends seamlessly with existing hair

Because the pigment is shallow and fine, it produces a realistic, soft visual result rather than a tattoo-like look.

How the Process Works

Most clients complete SMP in 3 sessions, spaced at least 14 days apart.

Each session:

  • Builds density gradually

  • Enhances the overall result

  • Allows time for pigment to settle between sessions

Results are visible immediately, and the full aesthetic is typically achieved after the final session.

Our FAQ'S

Does SMP look natural or like a tattoo?

SMP uses specialised scalp pigments and micro-dot techniques, this creates a natural, matte look rather than a traditional tattoo.

Does SMP hurt?

Discomfort varies by person. Most describe mild sensitivity rather than pain, and it’s comfortably tolerated by most clients.

How long does SMP last?

The pigment gradually fades over time. Many clients maintain excellent results for 2–5 years before considering a touch-up.

How many sessions are needed?

Treatment is typically completed across 3 sessions, allowing density and tone to build gradually.

Can SMP be done after a hair transplant?

Yes. SMP can enhance the appearance of density and help camouflage transplant scars. Timing of SMP after a transplant is reviewed during consultation.

Is SMP suitable for all hair colours and skin tones?

Yes, SMP is customised to your unique colouring, and the technique works effectively across all skin tones and hair colours.

What should I expect after a session?

Immediately after, colour may appear darker. As the pigment settles over 7–14 days, the tone typically softens and stabilises.

Are there any risks?

Risks are minimal when performed by trained professionals. Temporary redness or mild sensitivity can occur, but serious complications are rare.
